There is a serious crisis on our American Border and its happening in our very own district down in Webb County on the border in Laredo/Nuevo Laredo. It appears that American Citizens are being kidnapped. According to Webb County Sherriff Rick Flores, since 2004, 60 people have been kidnapped in Nuevo Laredo (right over the border from Laredo, TX). These are not mexican citizens we are talking about, but American citizens. Can you believe it? 60 American citizens kidnapped and it hasn't even made the national news. That's more people than Iran took hostage in November 1979! One girl in Aruba goes missing and (as it should be by the way) it is a national event for weeks. But, why is it when 60 Americans are kidnapped in Nuevo Laredo and there is not one peep on the national news?. Incredibly, 21 of these Americans are still missing! Pure and simple, this is an outrage and an affront to all Americans. There is one glimmer of hope in this grim situation. A straight-shooting talk host named Glenn Beck, who hosts a national radio and TV show on CNN has boldly dared to alert the American people about what's going on down in Laredo. My esteemed opponent, U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX District 28) was a guest on Mr. Beck's show and had some advice for Sherriff Flores that every citizen in District 28 needs to hear first hand. (Click here to view) Mr. Beck has promised that he will not let this die and I hope he keeps his word. These border issues don't just affect Laredo, Webb county and Texas. This is a national security issue and needs to be resolved. It is no longer acceptable to say that it is being addressed. There is a huge amount of talent within the border communities of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California and if all these brilliant minds would collaborate, I'm sure a workable solution can be found. Lets put the ingenuity of America to work to resolve this national issue. As your representative, I will work with the Congress and also work alongside the residents of the Riogrande Valley, Web County, and South Texas to develop a workable solution to this crisis. |
